A family business since 1864
In 1864 Claude Brugère, a tailor, and his wife Marie, a lace worker, opened an inn here. Their daughters, Anna and Marie-Clothilde, took over. In addition to local business, the inn welcomed travelers, mainly traveling merchants, who found food and lodging there for themselves and their horses.
A tobacco shop was added. Then the arrival of paid holidays and the democratization of the automobile would change the commercial data. Under the impetus of the heirs and successors of the two sisters, Auguste and Jeanne Magaud, the country inn became the CHAMBON HOTEL
It is a hotel-restaurant able to accommodate, with the comfort of that time, a new clientele. In the 1950s, the CHAMBON HOTEL became LA CLAIRIERE LOGIS DE FRANCE.
A new chapter begins in 2025 with Frédérique and Melchior
In search of their paradise, Frédérique and Melchior could not have dreamed of anything better.
They imagined a hotel where time flows to the rhythm of the seasons, far from the stress of the city, where the natural environment lends itself to long contemplative or sporty walks, where the territory cultivates conviviality and gastronomy.
Arriving in Chambon-sur-Dolore at the Hotel La Clairière, Christine Magaud and her family had done so for five generations.
Wanting to perpetuate this memory factory that fulfilled their dreams, Frédérique and Melchior chose to put down their suitcases.
And for those who think it's a shame that it doesn't stay in the family, Christine replies: "If that's all there is to it, I'll adopt them!"
The name "La Clairère"
The name LA CLAIRIERE was suggested by a faithful friend of the family, LUCIEN GACHON (1894-1984), a regionalist writer from Auvergne.
Emile Mery, a local painter, decorates the room with five paintings.
The new owners Paul and Paulette Magaud contribute to the development of the establishment, striving to satisfy an ever-increasing clientele. Christine, their daughter, takes over and continues to make the necessary improvements to ensure comfort.
